On Saturday, May 3, 2008, over 100 people gathered together at King Arthur's Restaurant to celebrate the retirement of the Marine Museum's Founding Director. Cocktails were followed by dinner. Then the program began in earnest. Mindy Ostrow, on behalf of the Museum Board of Trustees, presented Rosemary with original artwork by the artist Tim Ames. It is a collage painting of the Museum sites. Mayor Randy Bateman proclaimed the day to be Rosemary Nesbitt Day in the City of Oswego. Honorable Paul Santore, County Legislator for the 16th District, presented her with a resolution on behalf of the county. David L. White, the nephew of H. Lee and William White, who presented Rosemary with a custom framed photo of the ship, Oswego Reliance. The Port of Oswego Authority made her an honorary Harbormaster. Harrison Wilde presented Rosemary with photos of the last train to cross the trestle. George Nesbitt spoke on behalf of the family. He also presented a very educational and amusing chronology of the beginning & expansion of the Museum. Allen Bjorkman, Master of Ceremonies, led a champagne toast. Mrs. Nesbitt herself was the final speaker, relaying to the audience her history leading up to & throughout her career with the Museum. A slide show of photos of Rosemary's experiences at the Museum ran throughout the night. Music was provided during dinner, by Larry Rapshaw. Photos are by Jackie Lalande. |
